For me, a great primary school is a place where children feel that they belong. They should be known well, feel safe and supported, and know that the adults around them believe they are capable of doing great things. Just as importantly, they should experience the joy, challenge and satisfaction that comes from learning and succeeding.
At Adam Road, we have high expectations for both learning and behaviour. We believe children thrive when school is calm, predictable and purposeful; when expectations are clear; and when relationships between students, staff and families are strong.
We are committed to quality teaching at Adam Road Primary School. Our practice is informed by the best available evidence about how children learn, remember and apply new knowledge, with a strong focus on explicit teaching, particularly in the foundational areas of literacy and numeracy. We want our classrooms to be places where teachers explain clearly, check for understanding, provide opportunities for practice and support students to experience success. As children build knowledge, confidence and independence, we also want them to become curious, thoughtful and engaged learners.
I believe strongly in doing the important things well. Sustainable school improvement comes from clarity, consistency and doing a small number of high-impact things exceptionally well. At Adam Road, we will protect the things that already make our school special while being willing to look carefully at the things we can improve.
Our families are an important part of that work. Parents know their children deeply, teachers know learning, and when we communicate openly and work together, children benefit. I want Adam Road to be a school where families feel welcome, where concerns can be raised respectfully, and where there is a genuine sense that we are on the same team.
Most of all, I want our students to be proud that they belong to Adam Road. When they are wearing our blue in the wider community, I want people to recognise them as capable, responsible and friendly young people who care about others and represent their school well.
